ახლომხედველობა
რეფრაქციის მანკები (შორსმხედველობა, ახლომხედველობა,  ასტიგმატიზმი)  დაბალი მხედველობის ერთ-ერთი ძირითადი მიზეზია. ისინი მოსახლეობის დაახლოებით 30% -ში აღინიშნება.

ახლომხედველობა
ბოლო პერიოდში ძალიან გახშირდა ახლომხედველობა (მიოპია) ბავშვთა და მოზარდთა ასაკში, რაც კომპიუტერული ტექნიკის განვითარებასა და ახლო მანძილზე მხედველობის დატვირთვას უკავშირდება.  სხვადასხვა სტატისტიკური მონაცემების თანახმად საშუალოდ დაბალ კლასებში მიოპიის სიხშირე შეადგენს 6-8%-ს, სკოლის დამთავრებისთვის პროცენტული მაჩვენებელი  25-30%-მდე იზრდება, უმაღლეს სასწავლებლებში კი 50%-ს აღწევს.

რატომ არის არასასურველი ახლომხედველობის განვითარება?
მიოპია არ არის მხოლოდ ოპტიკური დეფექტი. ახლომხედველ თვალს ახასიათებს ტენდენცია პროგრესირებისკენ. პროგრესირებადი მიოპიისათვის, იმის გამო, რომ თვალის წინა-უკანა ღერძი იზრდება, დამახასიათებელია თვალის სტრუქტურებში პათოლოგიური ცვლილებების განვითარება: მინისებური სხეულის დესტრუქცია, ცენტრალური და პერიფერიული ქორიორეტინალური  დისტროფიები, ბადურის ნახეთქები და ჩამოცლა, რამაც საბოლოო ჯამში შეიძლება სიბრმავემდეც კი მიგვიყვანოს. ამიტომ ძალიან მნიშვნელოვანია მიოპიის პროგრესირების პრევენცია.

დაავადების გამომწვევი რისკ ფაქტორები:
- გენეტიკა - დიდია ალბათობა რომ ახლომხედველობა მშობლისგან გენეტიკურად გადაეცეს შვილს, განსაკუთრებით დიდია დაავადების რისკი თუ ორივე მშობელს აღენიშნება მიოპია.
- კითხვა და მუშაობა ახლო მანძილზე - მათ, ვინც ბევრს კითხულობს, წერს ან მუშაობს კომპიუტერთან დიდი რისკის ქვეშ არიან რომ აღმოაჩნდეთ მიოპია.
- გარემო ფაქტორები - კვლევებზე დაყრდნობით თუ დროის დიდ ნაწილს ატარებთ დახურულ სივრცეში მეტია ალბათობა რომ გაგივითარდეთ მიოპია.

როდის მივმართოთ ექიმს?
ახლომხედველობა უმეტესწილად ვითარდება ადრეული სკოლის ან სკოლამდე ასაკის ბავშვებში. ამიტომ აუცილებელია ბავშვი გაასინჯოთ ოფთალმოლოგს სკოლაში შეყვანამდე. სკოლის პერიოდში კი, მხედველობის გაუარესებისას შორ მანძილზე მზერისას.

დაუყოვნებლივ უნდა მიმართოთ ექიმს, თუ აღინიშნება ისეთი სერიოზული ჩივილები, როგორიც გახლავთ მხედველობის არეში მოცურავე შავი წერტილების ან ლაქების არსებობა, სინათლის ნათება, ფარდის მსგავსი ჩრდილი. აღნიშნული სიმპტომები ბადურის სერიოზული დაზიანების შედეგი შეიძლება იყოს, რასაც დაუყოვნებლივ სჭირდება ექიმის მეთვალყურეობა.

ახლომხედველობის შეჩერება შესაძლებელია არაქირურგიული მეთოდით:
როგორც დრომ გვაჩვენა, სათვალეები და კონტაქტური ლინზები ვერ აფერხებენ მიოპიის პროგრესირების შეჩერებას. მათი საშუალებით ხორციელდება მხოლოდ ახლომხედველობის კორექცია, რომ პაციენტმა შორ მანძილზე დაინახოს მკაფიოდ.

მიოპიის პროგრესირების შეფერხების ანუ მისი მკურნალობის  ერთ-ერთ ყველაზე ეფექტურ მეთოდად მიჩნეულია ორთოკერატოლოგიური კორექცია ანუ ღამის ლინზებით კორექცია. მრავალრიცხოვანი კვლევების საფუძველზე დადგინდა, რომ ღამის  ლინზები 80% შემთხვევაში იწვევენ ახლომხედველობის პროგრესირების შეფერხებას. ორთოკერატოლოგიური კორექცია ეს არის ახლომხედველობის (მიოპიის) ერთ ერთი ყველაზე ეფექტური მკურნალობის მეთოდი ბავშვებსა და მოზარდებში, რომელიც უზრუნველყოფს მიოპიის პროგრესირების შეფერხებას.

გარდა მიოპიის პროგრესირებისა, ორთოკერატოლოგიური ლინზების (ანუ ღამის ლინზების) საშუალებით პაციენტი მთელი დღის განმავლობაში ხედავს კარგად სათვალისა და ლინზის გარეშე.    პაციენტი ლინზას იკეთებს ღამით და სძინავს  8 საათის განმავლობაში. ლინზის სპეციალური დიზაინის წყალობით რქოვანის ფორმა იცვლება დროებით და შესაბამისად თვალის გარდამტეხი ძალაც იცვლება, ანუ ხდება მიოპიის კორექცია. ლინზების კეთდება მხოლოდ ღამით და აუცილებელია დილით მოხსნა, რის შედეგადაც მხედველობის აღდგენა ხდება 100%-ით. ორთოკერატოლოგიური ლინზები ყოველ ღამე უნდა გაკეთდეს. თუ კი ლინზის მოხმარება შეწყდება მხედველობა/მიოპია დაუბრუნდება საწყის დონეს.
